The Queensland Police Union recently celebrated its centenary with the release of a book called "From Strength to Strength: A Centenary History of the Queensland Police Union of Employees 1915-2015" by Robert Allen and Chris Forrester.
Working closely with the authors, ToadShow's Damien Ledwich and Anne Jones selected and commissioned images to help bring the text to life.
The lively Queensland Police Journal was a rich source of photographs, cartoons and illustrations. These were supplemented by numerous images from the State Library of Queensland and other sources.
In many ways "From Strength to Strength" tells the history of Queensland, touching on a wide range of events from Prime Minister Billy Hughes being pelted with an egg in Warwick in 1917 to the Fitzgerald Inquiry.
It's all told through the prism of a strong union, fiercely proud of its record of fighting for and achieving ongoing improvements for police officers' wages and conditions.
In addition to the major print run of a soft-covered edition, commemorative hardback and leather editions were produced.
