Hinkler Hall of Aviation

Hinkler Hall of Aviation opened its doors to the public in December 2008, as one of Australia’s newest, and most impressive regional museums. Dedicated to the memory of ‘Bundaberg’s favourite son’ - pioneering aviator Bert Hinkler - the Hall provides a platform for exploring the Hinkler story through an extensive archive, which includes replica aircraft, photographs, historical objects, memorabilia, and photographs.

A central highlight of the Hinkler Hall of Aviation is the six meter high Globe Theatre, featuring a documentary film and light installation made from hundreds of LED lights, detailing Hinkler's record breaking flights. Interactives within the space allow visitors to glide like Bert over Mon Repos beach, or fly the Avro Avian over Bundaberg. The Hall also contains interpretive panels, kiosks and other theatrettes illustrating many aspect's of Hinkler’s life and achievements, footage of the time and eye witness accounts.

Also featured are full-size replica of aircraft flown by Bert Hinkler: an Avro Baby, an Avro Avian and an IBIS, an amphibious aircraft designed by Hinkler himself. It also houses an original a de Havilland Puss Moth, the plane in which Hinkler made final flight.

The Hinkler Hall of Aviation will provide significant tourism benefits for the region, and provide an opportunity for younger generations to learn about one of the world's earliest aviators.
